MISSION STATEMENT :

The Board of Public Works strives to maintain the infrastructure of the City of Anderson in a state of quality operations for a safe and healthy environment for all, as well as being accountable to the Citizens of Anderson for financial affairs pertaining to the City under the Board's authority.

The City of Anderson's Board of Public Works, open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., is adjacent to the Mayor's Office, located on the fifth floor of City Hall, 120 East 8th Street, Anderson, Indiana. The Board of Works is comprised of a Chairman, two Members of the Board and an Executive Assistant. This department oversees many departments within the City such as the Utility Office, Engineering Department, Planning Department, Community and Economic Development, Street Department, C.A.T.S., City Garage, Personnel, and all utilities sections including Water Pollution Control, Light and Power, and Water Department. The Board of Public Works plays a significant role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our city government. The Board of Public Works is unique in that it serves as liaison between the Mayor, the City departments and the citizens of Anderson.

The Board of Public Works meets every Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Room 503 of the City Building. Business pertaining to the departments under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Works is conducted at these weekly meetings, which are open to the public. The Board hears all bid openings for departments and awards the bids on the basis of best and lowest bidding. The Board approves all Civil City and Utility Department claims for payment at the Monday meeting.

One important facet of the Board of Public Works is to hear grievances from three (3 )of the six (6) unions affiliated with the City of Anderson. The Chairman of the Board sets in on negotiations for four ( 4) of the six ( 6) unions. The Board of Public Works ensures that all employees, whether Union or Management, are treated fairly, equitably, and within the realm of human dignity.
