Department of Municipal Development
The Department of Municipal Development is a "One-Stop Shop" for developers, builders, contactors and citizens concerning developments, zoning, new construction, remodeling or other improvements. Strategically, we promote excellent planning and building standards as a key tool in economic development of the City. Also, we are responsible for the public safety, health and welfare of real estate through the enforcement of zoning laws, unsafe structure laws and environmental nuisance laws.

Permit Center
buildit@cityofanderson.com - For questions concerning permits, fees, or requesting an inspection.
Staff is responsible for issuance of permits for new construction, remodeling, demolitions, mobile home placement, pools, equipment placement, utility connections and miscellaneous. Staff responsible for issuance of contractor licenses for electrical, HVAC and plumbing in addition to setting-up appointments for code enforcement / inspection staff. Also responsible for taking complaints concerning structures and coordinating general inspections of unsafe structures.
Zoning and Development
zoning@cityofanderson.com - For questions relative to zoning, development, or Improvement Location Permits (ILP).
Staff oversees the implementation of the City Comprehensive Plan, and the administration and enforcement of existing zoning and signage ordinances. Also, serves as staff to Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, provides assistance to petitioners, presents zoning and rezoning petitions, presents site development petitions, responsible for ensuring compliance with subdivision control ordinances and floodway control statutes prior to issuance of an Improvement Location Permit. Also, participates in final inspection process to ensure conformity of approved development plans.

Staff checks all building plans for code compliance, performs periodic site inspections during construction or demolition, makes determination of structure viability and safety, and inspects utility connections. Additionally, staff is responsible for securing unsafe structures
Environmental Nuisance Control

Staff takes complaints on real property regarding weeds, trash and junk vehicles. Staff is responsible for property inspections, title research, enforcing environmental nuisance control laws including hiring of contractors to abate nuisance problems, case presentation in court system for systemic nuisance problems, and invoicing owners for abatement of nuisance problems.
