Welcome to the City of Anderson Interactive Web Map.

The following instructions are intentionally brief, as we are working on a more detailed help system for the future. In the meantime, if you are having trouble with any part of the map, please contact John Richardson at 765-648-6092 or jrichardson@cityofanderson.com.

Once you click on the "Interactive Map" button, you will be taken to a blank screen, with a toolbar in the upper left corner, a title bar at the top of the page, and a "Load Map Service" window at the bottom.

Use the drop-down arrows on both the "Main Map" and "Overview Map" sections (in the "Load Map Service" window), and choose "BaseMap", and then click the "Load" button beneath them.

At this point, you should see the city base map on the screen, and a list of available layers on the right side of the screen.

You may now select tools from the left side of the screen to pan around the map, zoom in, zoom out, etc ….
For example, to zoom in on the map, select the tool that looks like a magnifying glass with a plus sign inside it (a tool is selected when it has a red box around it), and then drag a box with your cursor around the area of interest. When finished drawing your box, release the mouse button and wait a second, and the map will redraw. You may also simply click on the map with the zoom in or zoom out tool, and the map will zoom in or out in stages.

Now that we have our area of interest on the map, let’s draw some layers!
On the right side of the screen is a list of layers, with a "Visible" and an "Active" button next to each one (except the photos). Click the "Visible" button next to the "Anderson Photo" layer and then click the "Refresh Map" button at the bottom and wait a second. Now you can see an aerial photo under the street layer!

Let’s check the "Visible" box next the Parcels layer, and then click the "Refresh Map" button. Now you see a representation of the parcels of property that people own here in Anderson.

Check the "Active" box next to Parcels. This makes Parcels the active layer, and now we can get information about them. On the left side of the screen, in the toolbar, is a button that is a black circle with a white lower case "i" in it. This is the Identify tool. Select the Identify tool and then click with your mouse inside one of the Parcels on the map. At the bottom of your screen should appear a scrolling list of data associated with that Parcel.

Pretty neat.

That is all of the basic instructions I have for now, there will be more to come. In the meantime, please call or e-mail me with any and all questions you have.

Just remember to hit the "Refresh Map" button every time you make a change to the map by turning layers on or off, and that depending on how many layers are visible, it may take a few seconds for the map to redraw!

Thanks,
John Richardson
