West Central Historic DistrictThe West Central Historic District was designated in March,1985. This District is comprised of primarily residential structures with a small amount of commercial structures. Structures were constructed from the late 1800's to well into the first half of the 20th century. This long span of history was responsible for the great variety of styles found throughout the District. Unlike many historic neighborhoods across the country which exhibit a more similar continuity of style, many of the homes in our district display characteristics of several styles, although several examples of pure architectural styles are present. There are less than 200 structures within this District which represent significant Italianate styles, Bungalow, Dutch Colonial, American Foursquare, and Shingle, just to mention a few. Lincoln Park is a park in the West Central District for the neighborhood to enjoy. A gazebo, brick path, and several trees and flowers allow a variety of neighbors a tranquil setting to relax in. It is located on Lincoln Street between 12th and 13th Street. West Central Anderson Downtown Neighbors Association In 1980, a group of concerned home and business owners established the Anderson Downtown Neighbors Association (ADNA) for the purpose of improving and preserving the properties in the respective neighborhood area. ADNA meets the third Tuesday of each month, usually in the home of a neighbor, to socialize as well as to provide information about downtown community happenings and items of interest to the downtown area. This Association is very active in the community. The Neighbors are involved in a local crime watch program and takes responsibility in monitoring local parks and parking lots. They have coordinated efforts with the West 8th Street Historic Neighborhood Association to put together a tour of historic homes in the area, assisted homeowners with preservation concerns in their area, promoted an annual calendar displaying several historic homes, and donated labor towards the local "Historic Week" Clean-Up Day. |
