This funding chart noted above can be invested in Anderson's neighborhoods for economic development, housing construction and rehabilitation, public and social services and infrastructure expansion. To meet the demands of the community, the Community Development staff in conjunction with the citizen participation component, conducted a needs assessment of the community each year, and determines what activities would best assist the citizens of Anderson. These activities were reflected within an Annual Action Plan.

The 2004 and 2005 activities can be summarized into two distinct program areas:

  • neighborhood development
    • the provision of decent, safety, sanitary housing and creating a suitable living environment, and
  • public service
    • support to organizations that provide services to youth, seniors, homeless, and special needs populations and support to public facilities/improvements.
