Existing Business Initiative Overview

The City of Anderson’s Existing Business Initiative is comprised of four basic parts:

  • Build database with survey results
  • Conduct company visits to gain information and build relationships
  • Determine what our community business “portfolio” looks like
  • Perform economic diagnostic examination

  • Conduct neighborhood assessment of infrastructure, traffic, public safety, and real estate inventory
  • Host neighborhood meetings to form ongoing district advocacy groups

  • Send out “ED Update” newsletters to businesses in Anderson
  • Publish Business Resource Directory, a guide to local offerings
  • Publish Annual Report and issue-based news releases
  • Host or sponsor workshops addressing stated and implied needs

  • Small Business Development Center (SBDC) staff at City Hall, offering free one-on-one business counseling
  • Through City of Anderson – SBDC collaboration, all types of services including, but not limited to, financial planning and business plan formation are available to small businesses in all stages of development

Neighborhood Meetings

We invite you to join other business owners in your district to come to our neighborhood meetings and share the hopes, dreams, challenges and concerns which comprise your experience of doing business in Anderson! To see in which district your business is located, please click here.

Northside Business District

The first yearly neighborhood meeting for the northside businesses was held on July 9, 2008 at the Community Hospital. As a result of the meeting, a group of northside business owners formed a district advocacy group. To learn more about the initiatives taken by the new northside business advocacy group, please contact Mesha McCarty at mesha@meshamccarty.com or 642-9903.

Eastside Business District

The first yearly neighborhood meeting for the eastside businesses was held on September 16, 2008 at Anderson University. No advocacy group for this district has been formed at this time. If you are interested in starting a new group, please contact Karen Pettigrew at 648-6116 or kpettigrew@cityofanderson.com.

Westside Business District

The first yearly neighborhood meeting for the westside businesses was held on December 2, 2008 at Geater Center. No advocacy group for this district has been formed at this time. If you are interested in starting a new group, please contact Karen Pettigrew at 648-6116 or kpettigrew@cityofanderson.com.

Southside Business District

The first yearly neighborhood meeting for the southside businesses was held on August 11, 2009 at the Anderson Univeristy/Purdue University Flagship Education Center, Salon D.  For businesses located near I-69 Exit 26, there is a new advocacy group. If you are interested in learning more about the group, please contact Mark Thacker at Mark.Thacker@hoosierpark.com or Michael Richmond at michaelrichmond11@comcast.net.

Central Business District

The first yearly neighborhood meeting for the central/downtown businesses was held on Tuesday, April 28th at Bickel's Uptown Cafe in downtown.  If your business is interested in supporting an on-going downtown development and redevelopment initiatives, please contact Lori Sylvester at Anderson Indiana Main Street (AIMS) at 648-6171 or lsylvester@cityofanderson.com.
