Anderson Municipal Airport to Host Rocket Test
The Anderson Municipal Airport will be the site of a live, static rocket engine test on Saturday, October 11, as the University of Dayton Advanced Rocket Team (UDART) completes static testing of its kerosene-liquid oxygen systems.

Airport receives $2.5 million grant
The federal government is giving $2.5 million toward improvements at Anderson Municipal Airport. The grant from the Federal Aviation Administration will pay for phase two of the airport’s taxiway upgrade project.

Dealership donates vehicle to airport
Visiting pilots and passengers at the Anderson Municipal Airport will have a new vehicle to use when running errands. Sam Pierce Chevrolet in Daleville announced its plan to donate a passenger vehicle to the airport. Pierce has been a longtime supporter of the Anderson airport. Currently, the airport uses an old Anderson city police car as a courtesy vehicle.

City to rebuild airport fence
Aviation board members voted 4-0 to demolish the broken part of the fence and rebuild it with two gates. The cost of fixing an airport fence over the White River is reportedly $38,000. Anderson Municipal Airport officials have to pay only $1,500 of that cost, and the Federal Aviation Administration will pay for the rest.

Anderson company pursuing $30 million lunar exploration prize
A local businessman has his eyes on the sky. Pete Bitar of Anderson-based Air Buoyant, announced that he had assembled a team to pursue the $30 million Lunar X Prize, sponsored by Google. The contest challenges teams to send a remote rover to the moon, travel at least 500 meters and send data back to earth.

Anderson-based Air Buoyant, is developing a one-person flying platform called the VertiPod. Classified as an ultralight aircraft, the propeller-powered VertiPod’s simple controls could spark a transportation revolution.
