Federal Funding
Community Development is the conduit for federal funds which come through various agencies to the City of Anderson, including Community Development Block Grants and Neighborhood Stabilization Funds.

There are some federal limits on the location and types of activities that can be funded, including a stipulation that 70% of the total expenditure must be used for activities that benefit low-to-moderate income persons.

Funding Activities

Community Development funds may be used for the following activities:
  • Acquisition or disposition of real property for any public purpose
  • Clearance, demolition, and removal of buildings and improvements
  • Housing services and homeownership assistance
  • Providing financial support and technical assistance for the establishment, stabilization, and expansion of microenterprises
  • Provision of public services such as those concerned with employment, crime prevention, child care, health, drug abuse, education, fair housing counseling, energy conservation, welfare, homebuyer down payment assistance, or recreational needs
  • Provision of technical assistance and capacity building to public or nonprofit entities to carry out eligible neighborhood revitalization or economic development activities
  • The repairing of streets, sidewalks, parks, playgrounds, publicly owned utilities, and public buildings
  • Public facilities and improvements
